Originally founded in 2018 by Ed Sherman and Wyatt Ystesund, Flannel Folk was a Barbershop Quartet known as Men in Plaid. In 2019, the Barbershop Quartet became Flannel Folk when it added a low bass and soprano. Since that time, original members Wyatt, Aaron, Avery, and Natalie have moved on as life has called them, where they continue to make music throughout Wisconsin and beyond. The contemporary acappella group is based in Cedarburg, Wisconsin where their own unique arrangements showcase complex musicality with a fun, energetic flair and make them a household name in the community. They have performed in the Cedarburg Performing Arts Center, at local festivals, on local and international radio stations, and on a side stage prior to both Lee Brice and Trace Adkins. In addition to live performance and studio recordings, Flannel Folk creates and releases music related comedic videos on their YouTube channel. Founder Ed Sherman has been the driving impetus behind much Flannel Folk’s growth. Trained as a classical pianist, he began singing in his Freshman year of high school. After transferring to Cedarburg High School, he met Wyatt and started the journey to Flannel Folk. He taught himself how to beatbox, was selected from all highschoolers in Wisconsin to sing in the 16-person WCDA Vocal Jazz group in 2019, and was awarded a collegiate scholarship for his singing. He is Manager, Lead Arranger, Beatboxer, sometimes-baritenor, and the glue that holds Flannel Folk together.
